MCP Servers for Zed
Zed is a high-performance editor built in Rust with native MCP support. Its AI assistant can use external tools through the Model Context Protocol — and AgenticMarket makes installing MCP servers a one-command operation with automatic config detection.
What are MCP servers? MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers extend Zed's AI assistant with external capabilities like web scraping, database access, and API integrations. AgenticMarket is a verified registry that lets you install these servers with one command — the CLI auto-detects Zed and writes the correct settings.json config.
How Zed Uses MCP Servers
What Happens Under the Hood
When you install an MCP server via AgenticMarket, the CLI writes a config entry to ~/.config/zed/settings.json. Zed reads the MCP configuration from its settings file. On next launch, it discovers the server and exposes its tools to the AI assistant. Zed's context server support works seamlessly with AgenticMarket's proxy infrastructure.
Why AgenticMarket vs. Manual Setup
Manual MCP setup requires editing JSON config files, finding the right server endpoint, managing API keys, and debugging connection issues. AgenticMarket's CLI handles all of this automatically — plus you get 24/7 health monitoring, verified infrastructure, and $0 cost on failed calls.

Zed MCP Troubleshooting
Common issues and fixes for MCP servers in Zed.
Zed doesn't show the MCP server after install
Restart Zed completely. Check that ~/.config/zed/settings.json has the MCP server entry under the 'context_servers' key. Run `npx agenticmarket list` to verify the server is installed.
MCP tools not available in Zed's AI panel
Ensure you're using Zed's AI features (not just the basic editor). Open the AI panel and verify the server appears in the context servers list. Try asking the assistant explicitly to use the tool.
'Connection refused' or 'ECONNREFUSED' errors
AgenticMarket servers run through our verified proxy — they don't use localhost. Check your internet connection and firewall. Run `npx agenticmarket doctor` to diagnose.
Config file path differs on my OS
Zed stores settings in different locations: ~/.config/zed/ on Linux, ~/Library/Application Support/Zed/ on macOS. The AgenticMarket CLI auto-detects the correct path for your OS.
Why Use AgenticMarket with Zed
Verified Infrastructure
Every server runs through AgenticMarket's proxy — continuously verified 24/7. Your Zed instance never connects directly to unknown upstream servers.
One Command Install
The CLI auto-detects Zed, writes the correct JSON config, and configures authentication. No manual editing required.
Pay Only for Success
Failed calls cost $0, always. Many servers offer free trial calls so you can test with your real Zed workflow before buying credits.
